What this area is
Pit of Misery is the rebuilt, larger version of the old EToH sub-area. It was once called Lag Free Pit of Misery. EToH's original Pit of Misery was archived. This branch is the one that still gets updates from The Eternal Abyss developers. The July 5, 2025 revamp replaced the lobby, changed several difficulties, and moved three towers in from the main area.
The lobby is gray ruin: fallen buildings, torches, bridges, tiny pines, crosses, and white flames. A giant skull and spine sit in the distance. Stars in the lobby mark Terrifying, Catastrophic, Horrific, and Unreal pockets. Citadel of Infinite Void is called out next to the Unreal star.
Lobby music listed for the revamp is Subnautica: Below Zero - Molten Silver. Credits, Halls of Fame, and the winroom use Little Inferno - The City Limits. The Tower of Modernistic Design Choices portal room uses Cuphead - The End.
On release day, October 9, 2024, the area only held Tower of Vacant Hindrances, Tower of The Roof's Pique, Tower of Spiralling Fates, and Steeple of Cheese Burger. The list below is the later roster. Do not use a 2024 screenshot as a map.

Tower of Swift Annihilation replaced Tower of Augmented Misery. Tower of Atrocious Truss Catastrophe moved here from the main area. On May 9, 2026, Tower of Sudden Death was lowered to Horrific, so it is not in this band anymore. Tower of Melancholic Misery was also moved back down to Terrifying in the April 23, 2026 nerf.

Tower of Quadrilaterals moved here from the main area. Its badge calls it a tower the writer would beat if they had the skill. Tower of Vacant Hindrances was lowered into this band in the revamp. Steeple of Cheese Burger was changed from a practice obby into a real steeple on November 28, 2024, and that change was specific to this area. Ukraine Tower moved here from the main area. Tower of Water Melon released on October 9, 2024 without bugtesting, so old bugs may or may not remain. Tower of Eternal Void's badge calls it the first Horrific completion.

Tower of Muscle Mania Unchained was added May 9, 2026 after a delay. Tower of Spiralling Fates is the tower this place was originally spun up to practice when the EToH lobby lagged. Tower of Blind Fate received a long-missing ending song on April 21, 2025.

Removed or not here
Tower of Regionality was added and removed on December 23, 2025. Tower of Meticulous Unary Gameplay was deconfirmed, then a rebalanced version was reinstated for this area on September 2, 2026, and the area page still marked it upcoming. Look for a real portal before you travel for it.
An old sign said an Unreal clear here could earn a podium in the original Pit of Misery Hall of Fame if you had video proof. That reward belonged to the EToH connection. Do not assume it still pays out.
